Can AI Make You a Better Trader? Here’s How It Handles My Daily Grind

There are many moving parts, daily routines, and records I maintain to trade successfully.

1. Research & Analysis

For me, research is often the most mundane part of investing and trading. Don't we all just want to jump straight into the action—buy and sell stocks and feel the adrenaline rush?

The biggest challenge in finding the right stocks to buy is the sheer volume of data: there is simply too much news and too much noise to make quick, well-informed decisions. Over the years, I have learned to filter out what I don't need and focus only on what matters. I broadly categorize this information into three categories: market sentiment, fundamentals and technicals analysis.

I start the day by gauging the overall market sentiment, then I start going deeper and precise by using fundamentals and technical analysis of the stock to buy.

Sentiment of the Market

I primarily trade the US markets. Between the Nasdaq and the NYSE alone, there are over 5,000 exchange-listed stocks. It is practically impossible to analyze that many companies every single day, so filtering them down to a manageable watchlist is step one.

Before looking at individual stocks, I want to take the temperature of the overall market to efficiently filter stocks that likely make the move today.

  • General Sentiment: Is the market leaning bullish, bearish, or just chopping sideways?

  • Macro Picture: How are broader indexes, commodities, and other asset classes performing?

  • Catalysts: Are there notable economic releases, earnings reports, or geopolitical events scheduled today?

  • Social Pulse: What tickers are gaining traction across social media and retail communities?

  • Analyst Views: What are Wall Street analysts and institutional reports highlighting?

Instead of spending hours finding answers to these questions, I set up an AI agent to scan the market and automatically send me a daily morning briefing summarizing all of this data- and it looks like this:

To zero in on where the volume and volatility are, the report also highlights the Top Gainers and Losers at report creation time.

Shortlisting Stocks using Fundamental & Technical Analysis

Once I have a clearer view of the macro trend and know which sectors are showing relative strength, I narrow my focus to three to five stocks for action for the day.

I am currently automating this step as well. Right now, I use a dedicated prompt that runs both fundamental metrics and technical indicators on my shortlist:

With the help of the AI tool, I will then make my own judgement and decide which stocks to trade for the day.

2. Placing the Trade

Once I lock in on a target, the next step is determining key price levels: entry, position size, take-profit, and stop-loss.

I typically combine standard indicators like RSI and MACD with Bollinger Bands on candlestick charts to identify support, resistance, and momentum. I'm also experimenting with using AI to suggest optimal entry price zones based on historical volatility.

Admittedly, AI-guided pricing is still a work in progress. While I have experimented with automated order execution with some success, market dynamics require nuanced risk management. In short: human intelligence still calls the shots when it comes to pulling the trigger.

Once I confirm my parameters, I manually place the orders through my brokerage platform.

3. Tracking Portfolio Performance & P/L

Another time-consuming task in trading is performance tracking—monitoring live unrealized positions alongside historical realized profit and loss (P/L). Yet, this discipline is vital: if you don't know your numbers, you can't tell what is working and what isn't.

Just a side note, if you are exploring AI for your own trading workflow, portfolio tracking is the best place to start. It carries zero trading risk because it does not involve live trading and yet still can teach you how to structure prompts and data pipelines.

In my setup, I use Google Antigravity as the central hub—the "brain" that connects my trading tools and data sources:

Once connected, I built three core modules in Google Sheets:

  1. Transaction Ledger. This is to record down every single trades I made automatically.

  2. Portfolio Analysis Dashboard

  3. Realized P/L Tracker

Transaction Ledger

First, I created a master ledger in Google Sheets that logs every completed trade. Through Antigravity, trade data is automatically pulled from my brokerages (Moomoo and Tiger Brokers), parsed, and formatted into my sheet:

Automatically populated by Antigravity every time I make a trade.

Note: All trades, data, and prices used in this blog are fictitious. I asked AI to randomize the data shown here based on my actual data. The purpose of this blog is to show you how AI can help in trading- and not to pick which stocks to trade.

Once the raw data is structured, we can answer the two most important questions:

  1. How is my current active portfolio performing right now?

  2. What is my historical profitability across closed trades?

Portfolio Analysis

This tab provides a high-level overview of open positions, current unrealized gain/loss, and sector exposure.

While your broker platforms provide default summaries, they rarely offer the custom views that fit the way you think and work, the way a tailored spreadsheet can. With modern AI tools like Gemini, you don't need complex coding skills—you can generate custom dashboards simply by describing what you want to see.

Here is what Gemini helped generate to keep my open positions up to date:

Realised P/L

I want to know how I am doing and whether I am actually making money from my trading activities, or if it would be better for me to just keep my cash under a pillow. I particularly want to track how I do month-by-month, year-by-year, and figure out which sector is giving me the most bang for my buck.

Using straightforward prompts in Gemini- they can answer those questions quickly. I built a visual breakdown that calculates net returns, win rates, and return on capital, that looks like this:

Realised P/L
Beautiful charts that are created by Gemini and automatically updated with every transaction.

Setting up an AI-driven workflow takes the heavy lifting out of data gathering and bookkeeping, freeing up time to focus on risk management and strategy.

In my upcoming posts, I’ll share a step-by-step breakdown of how to connect these tools, the exact prompts used, and how to build the dashboards from scratch. Read my next blog.
